100 Days!

As of today Tom and I have been married for 100 days. No I'm not counting down days in my head. I had a countdown on my phone to the wedding and now it counts how many days we have been married. See, I'm not that crazy. Regardless, it's a fun little milestone. Here is to many years more :)

My husband is awesome. If I haven't mentioned that before. Fun fact: he doesn't read this blog. He did when we first met and then stopped before reading too much. He said it seems invasive. There were things that happened before him that he doesn't think is his business. If that doesn't show you how different we are I don't know what does. I would have read his entire blog the first time I met him and called it "research".

On Friday night we went to a delicious hibachi restraunt right by our house. We spend the rest of the weekend by the pool, eating, hanging with friends and watching movies.

The weekends are too short and the weeks too long. It doesn't help that now the students are back on campus. Let the chaos begin!

Friday :)

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!!!!

I suck at updating my blog. There I said it. We just need to accept that for the time being. Sorry :)

Lets talk about bugs and lizards. They are everywhere in Texas. First we had a bed bug infestation. That was cleared up $1,500 dollars later. Ew. Then we had a huge water bug hanging out in the dining room. Have ya'll seen a water bug? They are disgusting. To add to that there are cockroaches all over outside.  ANYWAYS. Today I woke up to a little lizard running around the bathroom. A LIZARD! I freaked (because I am such a girl sometimes) and woke Tom up. I wouldn't let him kill the poor little guy so we had to trap him in a cup and release him downstairs. We live on the 4th floor. Why is this happening??? Did I mention these lizards have the ability to lose their tail if they are on the defensive. Yeah, that somehow makes the entire thing worse. Can you imagine what my reaction would have been if the tail would have just fallen off!?!?! Not good friends, not good. This is close to the top of my list of reason why we need to move out of Texas.

Oh! A student called me a true Texan yesterday. My first response was to correct her. Probably not the best response. There are a lot of things I like about Texas but for everything I like there are just as many if not more things I don't like.

It is fun to fantasize about where we will live next. Chicago, Boston or maybe somewhere in Europe?? Somewhere with snow, please :)

Robin

Photo: My heart is breaking for Robin Williams. Thank you for the laughs. You will be so missed :(The passing of Robin Williams breaks my heart. He was such a huge part of so many movies that touched me life. Suicide is never the right answer guys! If something is wrong please reach out to someone (I'm here!) if you need anything. Please don't make that decision. America is mourning the death of one of the good guys. Siiigh.

...

I bought tickets to a concert. This is a big deal for me guys! I never buy tickets to go to concerts. Just not really my thing. I'll go to music festivals but I don't even think I've done that in years. The last concert I went to was Relient K and I think I was a freshman in college.  It's been THAT long. Ok, so for those of you that don't know Tom, he's a BIG music fan. That's his thing. We have 2,000 records in out guest room. Come stay with us, you can stare at them. He loves going to concerts but we have never been to a concert together. I think this is the longest he has gone not going to a concert. Me? I don't care about them. Well we were watching This is 40 and the couple has completely different taste in music. That's Tom and me.
**I'm not counting all the free Blossom concerts I went to in Ohio.

This is turning into a long explanation...ANYWAYS. I figured out a way to care about them. It has to be a band I LOVE. I can only think of two "bands" I love.
1. Fun.
2. Something Corporate/Jack's Mannequin/Andrew McMahon
Fun Fact: Andrew is the lead singer of SC. He went solo under the name Jack's Mannequin (stupid, right?) and now he is still solo and using his actual name. There was a period I didn't realize that the two were assoicated. I feel like I have been lied to my entire life (exaggeration). Whatever, Andrew is coming to Dallas and I AM GOING TO SEE HIM LIVE! I'm freaking out excited (Tom's a little less thrilled). ANOTHER fun fact. He opened for Fun last year. Siiigh, should have went AND he toured with Matt Nathanson, who I also adore. This just going to show you that I have a specific taste in music.

Is it bad that I feel like I won? I'm taking my music loving husband to our first concert together? I'm sure payback will be just lovely.

In other news....This girl is going to the Broncos game in Dallas next week! Minor detail that it is a pre-season game. I'll still get to see my boys. I've missed Football season oh so much. I'm glad it's back. I'm also stupid excited for Basketball season this year. So many sports so little time!

Planning ahead

Flights are booked. We are headed to Arizona for Christmas. This wasn't our first choice, is that bad to say? We were in Arizona last year. We were just in Ohio so I understand why we didn't go there. We wanted to take a honeymoon. Maybe a cruise--maybe anywhere that doesn't involve family. At the end of the day it isn't in the budget. Tom's parents were really unhappy at the thought of us not being there for Christmas.  Which in turn makes Tom unhappy. Which is tricky because there are going to be many Christmas holidays that we are not there. Especially once we start having children. Being married to a guy who grew up on the opposite side of the country leads to complications with holidays.

I'm sometimes sad that my kids will not grow up by my uncles and cousins. Those people played such a huge role in who I am today. Some of my favorite memories involve my family and my kids will never know that the way I did. Tom grew up states away from extended family and doesn't understand how wonderful it can be to spend a weekend at your uncles and have sleep overs with your cousin at your grandma's house. Our kids will not grow up near my brother or Tom's sister. They won't have that connection. I won't be the aunt that knows my nieces and nephews the way mine knew mine.  Tom and I openly talk about this. We know we don't want to live in Arizona or Ohio ever again so we are just going to make it work. Maybe some family will end up near us. We'll create new traditions and our friends will become family. I know it will work but a part of me will always feel sad they won't grow up with that.

I'm getting a little ahead of myself, eh?

Ryan is back at work. Thank God, he is able to work and they saved his job for him. I'll be forever grateful. My mom is coming back to being my mom again. It's been a long year and I've missed her. She hasn't been the same since before Ryan's accident. She wants to come to Dallas in October which would be nice. She's slowly becoming more comfortable traveling and being away from The Cleveland Clinic. I still can't believe she was able to make it to my wedding one week after the heart attack. People talk to me about how great my wedding was and the first thing that comes to mind is how glad I am that it's over. I think once I'm emotionally separated from the situation I may feel differently but not yet.

Tom applied for a job within the same company that seems promising. It could be a long process but it would come with a lot of changes that I want more than I ever knew I wanted. So time will tell with that.

I heard a quote about life breaking your heart and it stuck with me. People tend to think that people are the only ones that will break your heart but that isn't true. Life breaks your heart far more. In a strange way it makes me feel better knowing that.
